Return to the homepage The Structure of the Centre - orientation pens

The fourth area consists of the orientation pens. These occupy an area of about 7 ha. and are of fundamental importance to the quality of the hare produced.

The area is divided into 11 pens, each around 6000 m2. The pens are subdivided into two groups, which are used in alternate years. This rotation provides, each year, 5 or 6 new pens unused the year before.

In each of the pens, a maximum of 25 animals between the age of 50 and 60 days are released. Each hare has available a surface area of around 250 m2.

The downward slope of the terrain, a 20% grade in some points, offers an ideal training ground for the hare, a factor which will be of use on release when it must defend itself and escape from predators. Each pen has at least one side that borders on the perimeter of the farm. This allows the hare to have their first contact, albeit indirectly, with the numerous predators surrounding the Centre.
